2,000 volunteers help to clean Bulgarian parks

May 25, 2009

On May 23, a number of foreign diplomats and local celebrities participated in a World Wildlife Fund (WWF) initiative to help clean up 11 of Bulgaria's national parks. Provided with tools and accessories, the volunteers also helped with various infrastructure renovations.

Bulgaria's national parks comprise the country's largest domain of protected area, and are simultaneously the most visited protected areas, but there are concerns that they are not being cared for properly.

The first WWF campaign for clean natural parks took place during the fall of 2007. The latest National Day of Natural Parks is a joint initiative of GLOBUL Green and the 11 national park administrations.
