The Regions for Sustainable Change (RSC) project is a partnership of 12 organisations from eight European Union (EU) member states. The three-year project was launched in October 2008 and is co-funded by the EU programme INTERREG IVC. Through regional cooperation, the RSC project has aimed to promote an EU-wide shift to climate-friendly growth by providing European regions with the methodological means to move towards low-carbon economies.
The RSC final conference will summarise the knowledge gathered on the integration of climate change and low-carbon issues into regional development programmes and policies. It is aimed at regional authorities and other stakeholders interested in learning more about methods for shifting towards low-carbon economies. The conference will include panel discussions offering a variety of perspectives, including that of the European Commission, as well as an overview of further possibilities for funding interregional cooperation to tackle climate change. Participants will have the opportunity to choose from among parallel workshops exploring in detail the methodological approach to low-carbon development proposed in the primary output of the project, the methodological handbook. Topics include taking steps towards low-carbon growth; analysing costs and benefits; monitoring the progress of low-carbon policies; and integrating climate change into strategic environmental assessments. The results of partner pilot actions carried out to test aspects of the RSC methodological approach will also be presented.
