Almost a thousand Austrian and Hungarian Protestors marched with a coffin from the main square of Szentgotthard on February28 to the site of a planned waste incinerator in Heiligenkreuz, just over the Austrian border, Greenfo reported.
Szentgotthard residents have protested against the incinerator since it was first proposed, as the facility would be situated only a few kilometres from the town centre, albeit on the far side of the Austrian border. The Hungarian state has also officially requested that Austria find a more suitable location for the facility, but has recently been granted a first-tier construction permit.
In an earlier protest, Greanpeace activists scattered 150 sacks of smoking waste in front of the headquarters of the energy division of BEGAS, the company carrying out the investment.
