Oct. 22, 2010

On October 18, Polish Minister of Environment Andrzej Kraszewski granted an Annual Award for Outstanding Environmental Scientific and Research Achievements to a number of researchers for their outstanding achievements, according to the ministry's official website. This Environment Ministry has presented these awards for more than 20 years.

Arguably, the most widely expected winner of the annual award was Maciej Sadowski, a professor at the Institute of Environmental Protection. Sadowski joined UN Framework Convention on Climate Change upon its foundation and has remained dedicated to climate change mitigation efforts.

Other winners were: Jan Marcin Weslawski, author of the Atlas of Bottom Habitats in Polish Marine Areas; the Warsaw University of Technology team for its database software for online collection, storage, processing and publication of water monitoring data at the Provincial Environmental Protection Inspectorate in Cracow; Jadwiga Zabielska-Matejuk, author of the study "Preservation of New-Generation Wood with the Application of Quaternary Ammonium Salts"; and the expert team from the Polish Geological Institute for their coastal engineering methodology titled "Principles for Documenting Geological and Engineering Conditions for Founding Marine Construction Sites and Safeguarding the Coastline".
