On May 22, International Biodiversity Day of Biodiversity, Serbia's first ecological fund Ecotopia, launched its campaign 'Shining Forest, Singing Forest' camaign in the National Park Tara.
Over the next two years, 10 hectares of forest in Tara park that were devastated by high winds will be cleared, and more than 10,000 spruce and beech seedlings will be planted to make up for the loss.
Funds for forestation and forest maintenance will be provided through issuing carbon offset certificates for private vehicles. Proceeds from the purchase a 'Shining Forest, Singing Forest '09' certificate will be used to purchase the tree seedlings, which, when upon reaching maturity, will greatly help to reduce carbon-dioxide produced by automobiles.
The project was realized and is supported by Tara National Park, the Municipality of Bajina Basta and National Geographic magazine.
