Serbia chairs UNEP session in Nairobi

Feb. 9, 2009

The 25th session of the Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum (GC/GMEF) of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) will be held February 16-20, 2009 at the United Nations Office in Nairobi, Kenya. A Serbian delegation, headed by Minister for Environment Oliver Dulic, will chair the Global Ministerial Environment Forum of the UNEP for the first time. Serbia took over the Chair of the Governing Council of GMEF from Hungary on January 1, 2009 as a representative of Eastern Europe.

During its two-year mandate, Serbia will chair UNEP's top managing body, which brings together environment ministers from 58 UN Member States. UNEP is one of the key agencies within the UN system involved in direction of the Global Environment Fund.
