Turkey opens Environment chapter in EU accession talks

Turkey's opening of an Environment chapter in EU accession talks on December 21 brings the number of total policy areas opened to 12, out of total of 35. Representing Turkey at the intergovernmental conference in Brussels were Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, State Minister and chief negotiator for EU talks Egemen Bagis, and Environment & Forestry Minister Veysel Eroglu.

The estimated cost of opening this policy chapter is EUR 58 billion. State funds will cover two-thirds of the cost, with the private sector paying the remainder.
